Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Review.

Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia) show us what happens when Hansel and Gretel grow up to be gun shooting, kid saving, WITCH HUNTERS.  They really do a great job bringing the action and story to life.  One of the greatest parts is that they don't just shoot once, they have to fight to win and that fact brings more to the story.

I've got to admit when I first heard there was going to be a life action "Hansel and Gretel" movie, there really weren't many ideas popping into my head that made me think this would be a good idea.  The original story isn't very long, so tops it would be a little under an hour with a few movie effects and details.  The idea of what happened next, never really entered my mind.  I am glad it entered the minds of Writer/Director Tommy Wirkola and his team.

So this movie has a high amount of blood in it, not horrible but high.  It is a big part of the  3D, so if you are not okay with blood then I would say skip out on this movie.  Now if you are okay with it, this is a fantastic 3D movie.  When ever something breaks such as a tree, the pieces pop out right in your face. This is one of the best 3D movies that I've seen. The surround sound adds marvelous detail as well. One scene there were people walking off the screen and you could hear their foot steps behind you.

Left to right: Gemma Arterton plays Gretel and Jeremy Renner plays Hansel in HANSEL & GRETEL WITCH HUNTERS, from Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures.

Thumbs up to the script writers for adding the well placed jokes throughout the film, as well as the script over all.  Tommy Wirkola, does an incredible job directing this film.  Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye was one of my favorites in The Avengers, so I believe he was the perfect choice for the role of the hunter Hansel.  Gemma Arterton scares a lot of witches as well, because believe me Gretel can stand her ground in this movie.  A big part that makes this film work as well as it does is the fact that Jeremy and Gemma work great together, they fit the brother and sister parts well.  You feel the connection between them, which makes it even more believable.

Over all I think this movie is very worth seeing. If you are looking for an action packed movie with a story that fits, go see Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Please think twice before bringing your under 13 crowd to this film, it can be very dark. It is rated R for many reasons.
