Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Ever since the end of "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens", fans have been anxiously wondering what happens next after the big climatic scene between Luke and Rey.  The wait is over and you can now find out what happens next.

This, along with a number of other stories continue on as we join "Star Wars Episode IIX: The Last Jedi".  What is great about these movies is that they follow up with the last installment as if it was part of the same film.  This means if you wondered what other characters reactions were to the events of "The Force Awakens", you'll see some of that here, one in particular.

As of the moment the words "A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away" first appeared on screen, these movies have been raising the bar for visual effects.  This one is no different.  The galaxy the filmmakers have created here is stunning.  It moves seamlessly between a single room, to the vastness of space, really appearing to all be connected.

The cast was fully on point.  Mark Hamill brings back the character we remember, with a little Yoda, Obi-Wan, and even Han thrown in.  His view of things may have been altered by experience,  giving some surprises from the beloved Luke Skywalker.  His story arc in the film may not be what you expect.

As for Rey, Daisy Ridley does a terrific job of showing the depth of the character.  Rey continues her journey with the Force, but still struggles with the mysteries of her past.  Ridley brings these pieces together to form a very memorable performance, worthy of her place in Star Wars history.

In the months leading up to the release of the movie, there was a lot of speculation about Carrie Fisher's presence as Princess/General Leia.  I won't tell you the story but I will at least lay to rest any rumors of a computer generated Leia.  Her scenes had all been filmed prior to her passing.  I believe she would be proud of how the film turned out.  On that note, be sure to watch the credits closely.

If I had to pick something I would like them to have done differently, it would be the screen time for Chewbacca.  The lovable Wookie was dealt a devasting blow in the last installment, yet we never really saw much of his coping other than his reaction in the moment.  His time here is mostly played for laughs, which is great but I feel like they didn't use him to his potential.

Overall, this is another huge win for the Star Wars series.  I cannot wait to see what Episode IX has in store for us.  If you aren't already planning on it, I fully recommend adding a trip to the cinema to your holiday activities.  Our founder, Jeremy, would absolutely call this one "Amazing."  Would you agree?  We'd love to hear from you.  Please leave your opinions in the comments.  Please remember to keep it family friendly and Spoiler-Free.

See you at the movies!
