Many people judge the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies by comparing them to films such as “James Bond”, “Mission: Impossible” and others, the problem with doing that is those who watch Bond and the M:I Movies aren’t the based target for the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies. The target viewers for these movies are kids, as well as the kids inside of everyone within our hearts. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked isn’t suppose to be like the former ABC show “Lost”, it is meant for family fun with a few cheesy jokes to brighten our day.
I don’t believe in 1958, when Ross Bagdasarian Sr. first recorded the first Chipmunk album that he planned on years later the being a R-Rated, Action Packed, Blood filled movie. The plan for the Chipmunks was always family fun, they are suppose to be cute little fuzzy animals.
Now in 2011, that plan is shown on the big screen once again. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked is the third movie in the Chipmunk series, this time the gang finds themselves on an island in the middle of nowhere after going overboard of the cruise ship on which they had started their family vacation with Dave Seville.
The story line was great, it was adventure of both travel and the meaning of family. I don’t believe the story which I am told of the Chipmunks being CGI because, it seems so much like they standing right there next to the humans on the screen. The music sounded great and was a fun part of the movie as the story went along, because the Chipmunks and the Chipettes were able to find a song to sing to go along with the moment at hand (or paw). Jason Lee did an fantastic job as Dave Seville in this move as he has in the last two (Well, mainly the first one because he wasn’t in a lot of the second movie), David Cross returned as Ian Hawk and did an great job. The new person joining the cast was Jenny Slate who played Zoe, she also did a wonderful job as you will see in the movie but I don’t want to give away the story by telling you details.
The voices for the Chipmunks were all returning cast as well, they did an awesome job as our favorite Chipmunks. Below is the list of who was who.
The voice of Alvin was Justin Long.
The voice of Simon was Matthew Gray Gubler.
The voice of Theodore was Jesse McCartney.
The voice of Brittany was Christina Applegate.
The voice of Jeanette was Anna Faris.
The voice of Eleanor was Amy Poehler.
Now on to the great Director of the film Mike Mitchell, this was his first time as Director for this series but not his first over all. In 2010, Mitchell directed Shrek Forever After and also starred in that same movie. Jonathan Aibel returned to the writers desk for his second Chipmunk movie along side Glenn Berger who also returned for his second time in this series. The executive producer of the movie Neil A. Machlis knows a thing or two about music movies since in 1978 he was the associate producer of Grease. Over all I believe the cast and crew did an amazing job bringing this movie to the big screen.
I am going to start a new rating system this time, using the always favorite stars.
I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars!
