Home Review

What do you get when you take one of the funniest actors on TV today, and have him lend his voice to a purple cartoon alien?  You end up with the latest animated family comedy from Dreamworks, "Home".

Jim Parsons of 'Big Bang Theory' voices Oh, an accident prone member of the alien race known as the Boov.  Parsons unique comidic timing works great for this character.  There are a number of great jokes that just wouldn't have been as funny coming from someone else.

If you watch the credits, you'll notice some similarities between the cast list and the list of musical performers.  Both Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez voice characters and appear on the soundtrack.  Rihanna plays Tip, a young girl setting out to find her mother after they were separated.  She does it well with a balance of smart mouth sarcasm and heart.

While most of the movie focuses on Tip and Oh, there are many other talented actors.  Jennifer Lopez sings the movie's theme song, as well as voicing Tip's mother.  She isn't the focus of the movie but conveys convincing emotion in her scenes with Tip.  Steve Martin also lends his terrific talents to Home.  I won't say who his character is because it could reveal too much that isn't mentioned in the trailers.  The rest of the cast helps round off this enjoyable movie.

The animation is very well done.  The characters all come to life in a very believable way.  From the general walking and talking, to random movements like the cat's tale or Oh's legs and tentacles, it all flows together and looks very life-like.  The animators also do a terrific job in making the background part of the scene without taking from the main characters.  There is always something going on, even it is as simple as other characters or vehicles passing by on the street, or waves in the water.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie.  It's a great choice to bring the kids to, but adults will also enjoy it themselves.  Check it out and let us know what you think in the comment section.  I think our Founder, Jeremy(J-Wing), would call this one "Amazing"

See you all at the movies!
