Home Run Review

Scott Elrod hits it out of the park with the new movie "Home Run".

In my interview with Scott a couple weeks ago, he said "I think people will be able to associate with at least one of if not several of the characters within the film". After seeing this film, I believe he was right. This movie isn't just a baseball film, it is film about turning things around even if it is the hardest inning of your life. You can't help but feel for the people in this film.

The cast is fabulous and strong group of actors. You have stars such as Scott Elrod, Dorian Brown, James Devoti, and Nicole Leigh. They pull you into the story and bring true emotion to the story. They bring out the best in each other.

Now as deep as this movie is, it is also a fun film as well. You will find yourself laughing many times during it. I think what I like the most about this film is that is it tells Cory's back story during the whole film and doesn't use half the movie to set up the story.

One way or another you will be able to connect with this film and it is well worth seeing. With the fantastic 42 last week, this makes for two great weeks for baseball/movie fans!

"Home Run" is a true grand slam. Make sure you go see it!

42 REVIEW

"A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." -Jackie Robinson.

The impact that Mr. Robinson still has in people's lives was shown when the credits started at the end of 42 on Saturday April 13th, the day after it came out (Note: There was a line to get in). Now most of the time, I try to go to premiere day showings I am glad that I wasn't able to this time. Why am I telling you all this in a movie review? Because what happened the night I went tells you why this film is going to be one of the best movies not only of the year but one of the best movies ever. When the screen went over to credits, every person in the theater started to applaud. It is very rare these days to find a movie that moves people as much as this does.

I am going to say it right now, Chadwick Bosman will win Best Actor at the Oscars. Watching this movie you really believe he is Jackie Robinson, he brings so much emotion to the role. If you don't already know this man's name, learn it because we will be seeing big things from him in the future. He has the most important thing, heart. The whole cast was amazing (even those playing people were against Jackie). Harrison Ford is a class act and one of my favorite actors. I really enjoy all of his scenes as Branch Rickey the Dodgers General Manager, including his scenes with Chadwick.

This film teaches us more about what Jackie Robinson had to deal with on his road to becoming a legend and what some still deal with today. It shows us why we shouldn't judge those who are different from ourselves. There are still hurtful words used that need to stop. One of them is used in the film a few times against Jackie because it was used against him in real life. What we need to remember is words can hurt. Working with my local Special Olympics over the past few years, I've met so many wonderful people who even with everything they have to deal with, they come together to play sports. As wonderful as these people are, other people meaning to or not still hurt them by using the R-word. Even movies like Ted used it. It needs to stop.

This film stands for everyone and it will be as big of an impact as Jackie Robinson was.

Make sure you see this film, make sure everyone you know sees this film. Take the whole family. This is a film well worth seeing.
