Star Trek Into Darkness Review

Chris Pine returns to the big screen as Jim Kirk in the all new action packed film 'Star Trek Into Darkness'.

In this series, we join Kirk as he takes the next step in his journey on the Starship Enterprise  Along side him on this Journey, Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the crew are back. Each with their own story. Next to the cast what was the best part of this film? The special effects.

When doing space scenes, you can do one of two things. You can make it look like you are hanging rocks on role and filming at night in your back yard or you can make it epic. J.J. Abrams makes it BEYOND EPIC! Some of the best parts are whenever you see the Enterprise flying, it makes any Star Trek fan proud. The TV/Online trailers for this film only show you a small part of the action filled effects of this movie.

Let's talk about the person on everyone's mind for this film, Benedict Cumberbatch. Now I watch the UK TV series 'Sherlock', so when I heard that he was going to join the cast I knew he was going to bring great things to the big screen. Now I can't tell you much about his story because I don't want to mess up seeing the film for anyone, so I will just talking about his acting. Just like the base of Spock, he is really fantastic at showing no emotion at all. I think his time as Sherlock Holmes, makes him that much better in this role.

I am a fan of William Shatner and thank him for bringing the role of Captain Kirk alive in the first place, that being said I believe Chris Pine plays the best Kirk ever. My favorite part about his role is how he brings you fully into Kirk's life journey. What I am about to say is true about the whole crew of the USS Enterprise, you can truly feel the emotion in every scene. Chris Pine will now be known as Jim Kirk forever.

Now let's talk about the character that can be play by two marvelous actors at once, leaving room for them both to be the best ever. Who am I speaking of? None other then SPOCK. In this film he is played by Zachary Quinto, who in my mind has earn a spot right next to his movie co-star from the first film aka the original, the classic, the famous Leonard Nimoy.

The whole cast is a grand group of actors and each bring so much to this film in their own ways. Now a ship can't fly without a Captain and a film can't play without a Director. Let's talk about the man behind the film aka J.J. Abrams. If he can take the upcoming Star Wars movie to the levels has taken the Star Trek films, then we are in for another great series of movies from the saga. J.J. and the writing team tell such an 'on the edge of your seats' story that you will want to see it again and again.

If you are a Star Trek fan then kick it into warp speed and get to a theater now! Even if you are new to the Star Trek world, go see this film and see what has everyone glued to their seats.

Jack The Giant Slayer Review

There once was a boy named Jack, who got some magic beans.  From those magic beans grew a beanstalk and up at the top of that beanstalk was a land of giants.  Now we all know the classic tale, but it was never told like this.

Jack and the Giant Slayer is the latest film to take on a classic story, I last saw this done in Hanzel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.  As I am a fan of that film, I do believe this one is the best.  I think the great part about this movie is that it is a full action adventure like the films past but it isn't full of blood and guns, it has swords and arrows!  The giants are very detailed but not too scary for the younger crowd.  I wasn't sure how a Jack and the Beanstalk movie would work, but it works perfectly.

Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) returns to the big screen only this time he wasn't a Zombie, he was the boy named Jack.  I am always a fan of his work and was happy to hear that he was picked for this film.  He works well together with both Eleanor Tomlinson (Alice In Wonderland)  and Ewan McGregor (The Impossible), who play Isabelle and Elmont (in that order).  McGregor in his fight scenes, seems to know how to use a sword... maybe he has used one or maybe a saber before. (He has the force). Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) plays Roderick, along side his wacky sidekick Wicke played by Ewen Bremner. (Ewan and Ewen... Don't mix them up).  We must not forget King Brahmwell played by Ian McShane (Snow White and the Huntsman), an always fantastic actor. I was a big fan of him in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as Blackbeard.

Another wonderful piece of art from the director Bryan Singer, the man who brought us the  X-Men movie series. Including the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. I couldn't wait to see this film when I saw it was being done by him.

This film has you on the edge of your seat every moment.  I would say this is a film the whole family will love!

“Star Wars Is Being Kick-Started with Dynamite” J.J. Abrams to Direct Star Wars: Episode VII

After a bevy of emails and phone calls, the formalities have been wrapped up, and at long last everyone can exhale and properly share the word with an excited Internet. Yes, J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII, the first of a new series of Star Wars films to come from Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy. Abrams will be directing and Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay.

“It’s very exciting to have J.J. aboard leading the charge as we set off to make a new Star Wars movie,” said Kennedy. “J.J. is the perfect director to helm this. Beyond having such great instincts as a filmmaker, he has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essence of the Star Wars experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgettable motion picture.”

George Lucas went on to say “I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller.  He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”   

"To be a part of the next chapter of the Star Wars saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honor,” J.J. Abrams said. “I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid." 

J.J., his longtime producing partner Bryan Burk, and Bad Robot are on board to produce along with Kathleen Kennedy under the Disney | Lucasfilm banner. 

Also consulting on the project are Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg.  Kasdan has a long history with Lucasfilm, as screenwriter on The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Return of the Jedi. Kinberg was writer on Sherlock Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Abrams and his production company Bad Robot have a proven track record of blockbuster movies that feature complex action, heartfelt drama, iconic heroes and fantastic production values with such credits as Star Trek, Super 8, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, and this year’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Abrams has worked with Lucasfilm’s preeminent postproduction facilities, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, on all of the feature films he has directed, beginning with Mission: Impossible III. He also created or co-created such acclaimed television series as Felicity, Alias, Lost and Fringe.

Past Star Wars veterans, dating back to the classic trilogy, offered words of praise from their direct experience with Abrams:

Visual Effects Supervisor Dennis Muren, ASC, whose credits include the original Star Wars trilogy as well as landmark films such as E.T.and Jurassic Park, also worked with Abrams on Super 8. “He puts everything he has into his work,” said Muren. “He totally immerses himself. He’s got such a visual eye, which is so important to the Star Wars films. It seems that a lot of the same things that were in George when he made the first Star Wars films are also in J.J. I think he’s going to fit into the other movies perfectly, with the energy that J.J. has. We’re kick-starting Star Wars again with dynamite. It will knock people out, including the people who get to work on it. I think it’s a great choice.”

Ben Burtt, responsible for such iconic Star Wars sounds as Darth Vader’s breathing, R2-D2’s beeps and the classic lightsaber, has worked with Abrams as sound designer and sound editor on Star Trek and Super 8.  “J.J represents the next generation of filmmakers from those that were making Star Wars when I started,” said Ben Burtt. “When he was a teen, he was a fan of Star Wars, and a great deal of his love for movies came out of his reaction of that first Star Wars film. You feel that he’s already invested so many years in it, and he’s going to propel it forward in a new way. In other words, you’re having a fan who has grown up and developed tremendous directorial skills finding himself at the steering wheel to take the franchise into the next stage. I feel like I’m there watching history turn over from one era to another.”

Matthew Wood, who served as supervising sound editor on Super 8, similarly grew up as a Star Wars fan before working on the films through the prequels. “Working with him, it was so obvious to me that J.J. and I have the same nostalgic love of that era. Now we have someone from that generation who is going to be at the helm of the Star Wars franchise that I’ve known and worked on, so it’s a great circle. Just seeing what he did with Super 8 and capturing those moments, and knowing what was so special about that era, it’s going to speak to a new generation of audience as well.”

This reviewer had the chance to go see a movie which is part of one of the greatest movie series in history, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Now when the galaxy has only been in 2D on the big screen, Movie Master George Lucas returned to bring a new dimension to the galaxy. With the new 3rd Dimension in the theater, the new age of movie fans now have the chance to see this epic movie series on the big screen. The pod races really come speeding out of the screen as you watch, and the lightsaber duels in 3D really make you feel like you are standing right there. Even the Lucas Film logo comes out at you. The flight scenes are great in 3D, it is as if they are flying around the theater. One thing that is great about 3D is the fact you feel like you are walking along side the Jedi Knights as they fight the Sith.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) fights along side his Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (Played by Liam Neeson), as they try to save the planet of Naboo and it's Queen. Along way, they meet a young boy on Tatooine named Anakin Skywalker (played by Jake Lloyd) and his mother Shmi Skywalker (played by Pernilla August). Now along side Jar Jar Binks (voiced by Ahmed Best) and R2-D2 (played by the great Kenny Baker), as well as young Anakin and Padme (played by Natalie Portman). Other well known faces from Star Wars in this movie were Yoda (voiced by the fantastic Frank Oz) and Jedi Master Mace Windu (played by Samuel L. Jackson). We must not forget the Sith in the galaxy, Darth Maul (played by Ray Park).

As wonderful as the cast is, there was another force in the outer area of the filming zone of the galaxy. Music Master John Williams is the head of all the beautiful songs in the Galaxy, he is a true musical master. Just as Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon work side by side, another two people strong with the force work together. George Lucas and Rick McCallum, both produced the whole movie mission. But producer wasn't the only path of the force, which Master Lucas followed. He is the writer of the whole mission and the galaxy Director.  The force is very strong with this cast and crew, as Master Lucas is one of the greatest movie Directors in the galaxy.

While this mission takes place in theaters around the planet, there is another mission in the outer area of the galaxy. Star Wars: Episode II - The Attack Of The Clones, this film will be heading to the world of 3D.

So when you are looking for a movie to watch make your way to the closest movie theater and take a trip to a galaxy far, far away.
