Ant-Man and the Wasp

A great thing about Marvel Studios is that they have started trying to answer the questions about where the other heroes are during various movies.  For example, where was Ant-Man during Infinity Wars? You’ll find out in the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Ant-Man and the Wasp”.  Not only that, you’ll even be able to see exactly how the timeline connects, which isn’t always the case in the MCU.

The movie shows what life has been like for Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, since aiding Captain America in the Civil War.  It continues with the same great balance of heart, humor, and action that made the first Ant-Man film such a fan favorite.

Paul Rudd was the perfect choice for Scott.  His timing and delivery on the jokes and one-liners is spot on.  Add to that, the rest of the amazing cast, and Marvel has another home run.

It was great to see Evangiline Lilly have the chance to develop her character, including becoming Wasp.  It took some careful balance to transform Hope into a superhero, and yet still have the pull and emotion of a person trying to find a long lost loved one.

The villain of the story is another that has an interesting story behind their motives.  The only concern at this point with the MCU is that their effort to create adversaries that are not just evil has almost created its own pattern like the one they attempted to avoid by doing that in the first place.  Still, it works and helps to create another compelling story.

Marvel proves again that the reason their stories work is because you care about the characters.  Every twist in the story gets a reaction from the audience, because you want them to succeed. Plus, the fact that they have ended previous movies without the standard victorious finale leaves you wondering all the way through.  Our founder would have absolutely called it “Amazing”.

I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here and how the characters fit into the growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.  What do you think? Do you like the the lighter, funnier movies like this one, or the heavier ones like Tony’s struggles in Iron Man 3?  Please leave your opinions in the comment section. Please keep it family friendly and SPOILER-FREE.

See you at the movies!
