The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Review

All logos and photos copyright: Warner Brothers.

Bilbo Baggins returns in the second part of his life changing adventure along side the great wizard Grandalf in the new movie "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug".

This is as they would say the bridge film for the Hobbit series, now I have to say that at first worried me. A bridge film is called that because it is the second film from a three film series which is one story. Now the part I was worried about was if the second film would be able to hold up with the epic start to the adventure and the upcoming big ending to our story but I am beyond happy to say that is one of the best adventure films I've ever seen. It keeps you into the story from start to finish.

The scene designs are truly wonderful.

The best part of watching this film next to the story itself? Three words... HIGH FILM RATE. The clear and detailed image of this film is beyond AMAZING! From the start of the film, you can tell how much the new High Film Rate brings out the detail in the scenes. Add this with the great special effects including the great Smaug and you have a movie fan's dream come true. You can really see the HFR first in the opening scene, as for the special effects SMAUG! Not only Smaug but he is one of the best parts.

I said this with the first film and I will say it with this one, the cast is fantastic! Martin Freeman plays a great Bilbo Baggins and this time he is joined by his 'Sherlock' co-star Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug. Sir Ian McKellen returns as the great wizard Grandalf, I am looking forward to seeing him return as his other powerful role in the upcoming 'X-Men' film.

Orlando Bloom returns as 'Lord of the Rings' role of Legolas. You can really see where he uses parts of his Will Turner role from 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and the other way around.

Speaking of Elves, let's talk about the new face to the Peter Jackson films, Evangeline Lilly who plays Tauriel. Now I know there are some people who aren't happy with role being in the story, but I for one find that she is a great addition to this film.

Thorin and his team/family of Dwarves return on their journey back to their home in the mountain. Great line up of cast members in this team, they truly make this movie as fantastic as it is.

Hey 'Arrow' fans, this is Manu Bennett aka Slade Wilson. I am not joking.

This man is unbelievable. He first gave us a blockbuster hit film with the original 'Lord Of The Rings', then he added two more hit films to that series. Now he brings us back to back hit films with 'The Hobbit' part one and two. I can't wait to see what he does with the third and final film. GREAT JOB MR. PETER JACKSON.
