Have you ever wondered who would win
in a fight, Batman or Superman? It's a concept that has been a part
of storylines in the comics and various animated versions. Now, for
the first time, the two heroes face off in live-action in “Batman
vs Superman: Dawn of Justice”.
The movie hits the ground running with
action and story. As the previews have said, this version introduces
us to Bruce Wayne, who has already been Batman for some time now.
They don't spend much time on his back story because they don't need
too. The combination of the writing and Ben Affleck's compelling
portrayal of the Dark Knight give us a great sense of his life
experience as Batman. You believe that everything he is doing is
what he believes is for the greater good.
Henry Cavill reprises his role as
Clark Kent/Superman. The movie's conflict begins with the aftermath
of the battle in Metropolis that takes place at the end of “Man of
Steel”. The effort to make these big screen characters more
realistic gives a very interesting layer to the story. The world may
be grateful that he stopped an attack, but that doesn't mean they
don't still have to deal with the destruction caused by the fight,
and that Zod only came to Earth because Superman was here. Cavill
plays the role so well. This could be one of the best on screen
portrayals of the struggle to be both Clark and Superman.
The story goes far beyond these title
characters. After a few LexCorp Easter Eggs hidden in “Man of
Steel”, “BvS: DoJ” introduces us to millionaire Lex Luthor.
Jessie Eisenberg gives a surprising performance as the classic
Superman villain. Calling it surprising doesn't mean he is not a
good actor. He just wasn't necessarily someone that would have come
to many people's minds when the think of casting this iconic
character. If anyone is still doubting the decision when they go to
the theater, he will prove them wrong. Running with a concept
somewhat similar to Lex from the “Smallville” TV series, they
start to give you a reason that he is the way he is. He is even well
liked by many people for his “good work” in Metropolis.
Eisenberg gives us someone who is not just a villain, but a character
we want to learn more about.
Amy Adams returns as Lois Lane. Adams
version of Lois is a combination of some of the best character traits
of previous incarnations of the reporter. She still manages to find
herself in trouble as a result of her “dive in head first”
attitude, but she does not just wait around for Superman to show up.
Sure, he still saves her on the occasion she gets in over her head,
but often enough she is the one that saves herself and even rescues
others along the way. She gives a good balance of needing help, but
not being helpless. When Amy Adams first appeared in the “Man Of
Steel” trailers, several fans were pretty upset that Lois had red
hair instead of the traditional black hair the reporter has had most
of the time before. It seems to speak well of her acting ability if
the only complaint that many had was her hair color. It will be
interesting to see what role Lois has in the Justice League movies.
There is a strong supporting cast in
the film as well. Alfred is portrayed by Jeremy Irons. He may not
be main character, but he gives a great performance as the famous
butler. You believe that not only is he a loyal butler, but more
importantly, a loyal friend and mentor to Bruce. As you know, Batman
and Superman are not the only heroes to appear in the movie. Gal
Gadot delivers the first big screen appearance of the Amazonian
warrior princess, Wonder Woman. She is not a main character in the
story but gives a strong performance to make us look forward to more
to come.
This movie is full of Easter Eggs.
Some are subtle, and some may as well be labeled “This is what we
are going to do next”. Either way, it could be hard to wait until
next year to see the “Justice League”.
“Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of
Justice” was met with lot of harsh reviews. What do you think?

Thank you to ESSEX CINEMAS and T-REX for being the theater of choice for our movie reviews. When you are looking for the best place to check out a movie, make it ESSEX CINEMAS and T-REX at the Essex Outlets Center in Essex, VT!
The T-Rex Theater is AMAZING!!! With the 60 foot curved screen and 124 speakers which is part of 7.1 Digital Surround Sound, there are 401 extra wide luxury seats with memory-foam headrests making a movie theater trip you will never forget! T-Rex stands for “Theater Real Extreme”
Putting aside all of the harsh reviews and a lack of comic book knowledge, the sten and corporate critics lost this battle. Having only been out for the opening weekend and putting up numbers creeping $1 billion worldwide, I think it's safe to say the common and passionate fan base turned out and loved the dark and emotional direction the film's creators took. Batfleck was amazing and Henry cavill does it again. I loved this movie and having a few minor hiccups and plot holes, it is safe to say I will be making a "return" to experience BVS:DOJ again
