X-Men: Apocalypse

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is the 8th movie in the X-Men series. However, thanks to “X-Men: Days of Future Past” acting as a big reset button, it is really only the 3rd movie in the story.

The movie starts off shortly after the post-credits scene from “Days of Future Past”. As you may have noticed in the trailers, this is based on the younger versions of the characters. The only issue with this is that we saw many of these characters when Logan returned to present day in the last movie. This means there was little doubt that any of them would survive. However, this really doesn’t spoil the movie because the real point is what shapes them into the heroes or villains they will become. That is what you get when a movie is both a sequel and a prequel to the previous one.

There was some debate about casting choices for this movie. Overall it seemed to work. Not to keep referring to the altered timeline, but the thing to remember is that these characters are not going to become the exact characters we saw in the other movies because their histories on different. They did a good job of establishing a starting point for them. The ensemble works well together, laying ground work for the relationships and friendships we expect to see in the future. There are a couple of X-Men included in the movies that fans of the comics and cartoons will recognize which unfortunately don’t play a big role in this story. Hopefully they will work it out as they did when there was a brief glimpse of Kitty Pryde in the first movie, and she became a pivotal part of the team as the series continued.

As for the story, it played out well. There were one or two spots, one in particular, where it seemed that what happened was a little too obviously done just to advance the story. Overall, it was enjoyable and well written. It may not be the top ranked film to come from Marvel Comics, but it certainly doesn’t seem to deserve the harsh feedback it has received. Anyone who is into action movies, sci-fi, comic books, or all of the above, will enjoy this movie.

After you have seen the movie, please let us know what you think in the comments below.  Please remember, NO SPOILERS!!! and no offensive language.

See you at the movies!
